If your Tungsten “flats” exceeds 1/3 of the button, you are automatically falling into “over drilling” – the chance of the tungsten breaking is very high. Regular re-sharpening extends the life of the Button bits and maintains maximum penetration rate.

Button Bits should be inspected regular and reground when the following occur:

1. “Snakeskin” – type patterns on the surface of the button – this is caused by excessive heating during drilling and will allow the buttons to disintegrate if not sharpen.
2. Flats on the Buttons exceed 1/3rd of the diameter of the Button.

Essential facts for the Grinder to operate Efficiently:

• Grinders operation Pressure is 8 BAR (115 psi) and minimum of 30cfm.
• Lubrication, is essential to prevent premature bearing failure, a light grade machine oil is required.
• Water cooling is essential during grinding operation.
• Correct size and Type of Grinding Stone to be attached for the Right Button.
• Always check if the tool is rotating and water coolant follow.
• Chipped buttons should be grinded smooth and broken off buttons should be ground flush with the body of the bit.
• After usage make sure all the water is out of the machine, and let it run for a minute to ensure the oil flows into the grinder and all parts are lubricated.
